Sooners Beat Irish, Advance to Semis

OMAHA, Neb.Cade Horton registered a career-high 11 strikeouts and Peyton Graham and Tanner Tredaway combined for seven of Oklahoma’s 12 hits to lead the Sooners to a 6-2 win over Notre Dame in the 2022 NCAA Men’s College World Series Sunday evening at Charles Schwab Field.

Graham went 4 for 4 with a walk and scored a run and Tredaway was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs. Wallace Clark drove in two runs, including one on a squeeze bunt that brought home another run on an error in the fifth inning.

The Sooners (44-22) scored two runs in the third inning on RBI singles by Tredaway and Clark, then plated three runs in the fifth inning. Tredaway scored on the squeeze bunt, and Clark ended up at third base after the throw to first went down the right field line, allowing Jimmy Crooks to score. Jackson Nicklaus followed with an RBI single to bring in Clark and make it a 5-0 lead.

After the Irish (41-16) pulled within 5-2 on a two-run home run by David LaManna in the sixth inning, OU got a run back in the bottom half on another RBI single by Tredaway.

Horton (5-2) allowed just the two runs on five hits and one walk over 6.0 innings. Jaret Godman struck out two in the seventh inning and Trevin Michael closed it out for the second straight game in Omaha.

Oklahoma will face the winner of Notre Dame and Texas A&M at 1 pm CT Wednesday in the MCWS semifinals.
