Pleasanton Ridge wildfire: Forward progress stopped on Canyon Fire near Sunol, near Niles Canyon; evacuations still in place

SUNOL, Calif. (KGO) — Forward progress has been stopped on a 65-acre wildfire burning near Sunol and Pleasanton on Thursday afternoon, CAL FIRE says.

WHAT TO KNOW: Fires currently burning in Sunol, Benicia, Vacaville, Port Costa

The Canyon Fire is burning on the ridge between Fremont and Pleasanton, north of Niles Canyon, according to Fremont fire officials.

There have been no reports of injuries. One structure, possibly an outhouse, was destroyed.

An evacuation order is still in place for Kilkare Road residents as well as those in the Golden Eagle Estate community. Pleasanton police say that residents in the Castlewood neighborhood, which is just down the road, have been given an evacuation warning.

Alameda County Sheriffs officials say 450 homes were evacuated.

A big concern for first responders is that Kilcare Road in Sunol is one way, in and out. Sgt. JD Nelson tells ABC7 that if the fire reached the road, there would have been no way to evacuate people.

Officials say if you’re traveling in the area of ​​Kilcare Rd. Sunol, please drive carefully as there are many fire vehicles in the area. Foothill Rd. is closed from Bernal Ave to Castlewood Rd.

Mutual aid was requested from Fremont Fire, Alameda County Fire and CAL FIRE.

ABC7 News is getting reports that a live power line is down and PG&E crews are on the scene.
