MSU mourns loss of dean of Darr College of Education

At the AgAcademy reception Wednesday, the leader of Missouri State University asked for a moment of silence to remember Ronald Del Vecchio.

Del Vecchio, dean of the Darr College of Agriculture, died Monday.

“Unfortunately, very early in Ron’s tenure here he developed cancer and has been fighting — had been fighting — cancer,” said MSU President Clif Smart.

Speaking of the AgAcademy, a new magnet school operated by the Springfield district in partnership with the district, Smart said Del Vecchio had been “a big part of getting this project completed.”

The new facility was possible because of a gift from William H. and Virginia Darr and the Darr Family Foundation.

Missouri State Provost Dr. Frank Einhellig said Del Vecchio has been a valued member of the MSU family since August 2016 when he took on the leadership role of the college.
