Today, on the 50th anniversary of Title IX, Major League Baseball and Church & Dwight Co., Inc, the makers of ARM & HAMMER ™, announced the return of the Jennie Finch Empowerment Award presented by ARM & HAMMER, and the award’s first winner of 2022. This award annually celebrates four young women who demonstrate positive characteristics through their participation in several MLB-led softball programs. Winners of the Award each receive a $ 10,000 college scholarship, courtesy of ARM & HAMMER, as well as a trip to the 2022 World Series, where they will be recognized prior to a game. The recipients will be selected from four marquee softball events, including the Elite Development Invitational, RBI World Series, All-Star Jennie Finch Classic presented by ARM & HAMMER and Breakthrough Series.

The first winner of 2022, selected from this past weekend’s Elite Development Invitational, is pitcher Grace Shary. A California native representing the Class of 2024, Shary plays at the Compton Youth Academy and also played in the 2021 Breakthrough Series.

An MLB blue-ribbon panel, which includes Olympic Gold Medalist, NCAA Women’s College World Series Champion and MLB Youth Softball Ambassador ** Jennie Finch **, selected Shary and will continue to choose the student-athletes who best exemplify powerful characteristics such as Leadership , Motivation, Commitment, Humility and Integrity.

“We look forward to recognizing the teamwork, strength, resilience and confidence of young softball athletes across the country, providing them the opportunity to get together at our events and to receive the Jennie Finch Empowerment Award,” said David James, MLB Vice President of Baseball & Softball Development. “Jennie Finch and Church & Dwight have been great partners in this effort that both build confidence and assists with college costs.”

To date, ARM & HAMMER has contributed $ 100,000 to the MLB Youth Foundation and Jennie Finch Empowerment Award recipients.

“We are honored to return the Jennie Finch Empowerment Award presented by ARM & HAMMER, in partnership with MLB and Jennie Finch, for a fourth year, and continue to champion and empower these young female athletes,” said Cindy Manzo, Church & Dwight marketing manager.

The partnership with ARM & HAMMER is a continuation of MLB’s commitment to the growth of softball, which has included (a) the appointment of Finch, Olympic Gold Medalist Natasha Watleyand NCAA Women’s College World Series Champion Lauren Chamberlain as MLB Youth Softball Ambassadors, (b) partnering with USA Softball to provide elite-level amateur development softball events each year, and (c) supporting the US Olympic Softball Team and the “Stand Beside Her” training tour in 2020 and 2021.
