Eight Gophers Invited to USA Hockey Evaluation Camp

MINNEAPOLIS – USA Hockey announced the 60 players invited to participate in its National Junior Evaluation Camp, set for July 24 to August 3 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich., Including eight with ties to the University of Minnesota.

Returning Gophers and international veterans Brock Faber and Matthew Knies are among those invited after showcasing their skills on the world stage at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

The pair is joined by five Minnesota newcomers that are set to begin their collegiate careers during the 2022-23 campaign. Defenseman Ryan Chesley and Luke Mittelstadt, along with forwards Logan Cooley, Connor Kurth and Jimmy Snuggerud, are all part of the selection pool.

Former Gopher Chaz Lucius also was invited to the camp after signing a three-year, entry-level contract with the Winnipeg Jets following his freshman season with the Maroon & Gold.

The 2022 US National Junior Team will play in the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship August 9-20 in Edmonton, Alberta, and the final 23-player roster is expected to be announced by August 3. The tournament was originally scheduled for Dec. 26, 2021 – Jan. 5, 2022, but was canceled due to COVID.

The roster for the 2023 US National Junior Team, which will play in the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship Dec. 26, 2022 – Jan. 5, 2023, in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Moncton, New Brunswick, is expected to be announced in mid-December.
